Welcome to #NotBadNews, our new (and hopefully short-lived) daily column where we round up the good, surprising, and weird things that have happened around the world during this coronavirus pandemic.
Costa Rica’s Getting Married
The tropical North American country has reason to celebrate. As of May 26, same-sex couples are able to marry! While parties are having to be pushed in compliance with COVID-19 regulations, virtual get-togethers in celebration are nothing short of prideful. Get ready for some Zoom weddings and FaceTime toasts.
Costa Rica is celebrating today: marriage equality has become a reality in the country – the first one in Central America! We rejoice with you: congratulations to all those who worked so hard to make it happen! #SiAceptoCR #UnPasoHistorico #IDoC https://t.co/zmnQeP3gLq

Thank you, Costa Rica for giving us something to celebrate!
Actors Gone Wild
No one is immune to the quarantine-crazies, not even our favorite celebrities. While some of us might take up a new hobby to cope, these actresses have turned to their art.
The queen of characters, Helena Bonham Carter, teamed up with Sam Neill to bring us this short film.
HELENA BONHAM CARTER stars in this groundbreaking Cinema Quarantino Production DAS FONE HELL. At vast expense, filmed on two continents over what (seemed like) five years , this profound and heartbreakingly candid insight into Modern Life will shake you to the core (Pilates 101) pic.twitter.com/aVXCfvAyfd

Is a multi-continental shoot the new “12 years in the making”? Watch out Boyhood, quarantine is coming for your crown.
And not to be left out, our other favorite character showed us what she’s been working on.
Legally Blonde’s Jennifer Coolidge, Emerson College alumni, created a bizarre commencement address for the Class of 2020.
Alright so Emerson asked a bunch of famous alumni to make videos for the Class of 2020 and this was Jennifer Coolidge’s…I’ve just been watching it on a loop for the past 20 minutes. pic.twitter.com/tMGY5EeKzd

The Birds Are Taking Over
Whether it’s the street or your backyard, birds are (based on what we’ve seen) having a moment. After one father’s boredom hit a peak, the Kookaburra was introduced to this neighborhood.
So my Dad made good use of his time in lockdown and built a huge laughing Kookaburra. pic.twitter.com/UGVC4dZsCL

For even the most casual birder, seeing a Kookaburra is exciting, so imagine looking out your window to see one 12-feet tall!
And while this neighborhood reveled in the enormity of a project worthy of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, another backyard was hosting an owl pool-party. This family of owls found the perfect way to cool off in the summer by taking over one family’s kiddy pool. We think they’re laying claim to this cold and refreshing sanctuary, and after the heat this weekend brought, can you blame them?
a family of 6 little owls took over my friend’s back yard? owl POOL PARTY????? pic.twitter.com/XlFwLmfYGo

While we may never know how many licks it takes owls to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, we do know how many of them it takes to fill a kiddy-pool.
The Ultimate Meet-Cute
This couple’s love story is nothing short of a Nancy Meyers’ classic—he caught the garter, she caught the bouquet, the rest was history. Five years after meeting at their friends’ wedding, this couple tied the knot.
5 years ago today some stranger caught the garter and I caught the bouquet. Now he’s my husbanddddd. 5/23/2015 pic.twitter.com/GlL1h9EJX5

Has there ever been a better rom-com love story? I know the answer, and its no. Congrats to the new couple, the king and queen of the meet-cute!
